Pet Overpopulation

Every day in the United States, thousands upon thousands of puppies and kittens are born because of the uncontrolled breeding of pets. Add to that number the offspring of stray and abandoned companion animals, and the total becomes even more staggering. Every year, between six and eight million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters; some three to four million of these animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes for them.

YOU can help save a pet’s life

Spay or Neuter your pet. Educate and encourage others with pets to do the same.

Adopt. Love Your Pet's non-profit division, Love Your Pet Rescue, Inc., works with local animal shelters and other adoption agencies to rescue and adopt out homeless pets. Photos of loving pets now ready for you to take home are posted on this page! Check back often for updates. You can also see our highlighted Pets of the Week posted on www.chicagoathome.com. Please email us at loveyourpet@sbcglobal.net for more information or if you would like to meet any of our adoptable pets. You can also visit our LINKS page for additional resources on pet adoption.

Hunter. I am your typical wonderful Lab.  I am the perfect age, about 6 yrs young, female, and I love to play fetch.  I'm gentle with kids, know basic commands, have great energy, and will make a most loyal companion for you!

Pepper. Hi! My name is Pepper and I am quite mellow for a Lab.  I'm 9 years young but in excellent health and still have many good years left to bring you joy and love.  I am good with children and other dogs.  I am virtually no maintenance and would love the opportunity to meet you.  Won't you pay me a visit?

Dillon. I'm a male Shepherd mix, about 1-2 years of age and about 60 pounds. I am a very happy-go-lucky dog who gets along with everyone. I am so happy that my back end wiggles when I wiggle my tail. I even wiggle my tail when I'm eating! I love other dogs and love human affection. I am waiting to meet you!

Sunny. I am a sweet and playful Pointer mix about 1 year old. I have great energy and love to play ball and chase after you. I love to jump and like to try to jump to face level to greet you, so watch your nose! If you don't prefer this I am smart too, so just a little discipline in this area and I am the perfect family pet. I am a very goofy little girl who is so eager to please you. I love to play with other dogs and I'm very loving to people too!

Bonnie. I'm female Lab/Pointer mix about 1-2 years old and quite a clever little girl I'm told! I am playful, friendly, and energetic, so please take me out so I can burn it off! I love to play ball and catch. I also love to play with other dogs, especially tag! I have a nice, friendly disposition and would make a great family pet.

Kylee. Hi! I'm a female Lab mix, 1-2 years old and about 50 lbs. I was a mommy at one point and was rescued with one of my babies who has been adopted. I'm a little shy at first, but with some love I come out of my shell. I play well with all other dogs and I'm told I'm a sweet and gentle soul!

Clinton. I am a very nice male Beagle approximately 1 year old and about 30 pounds. I can be a little shy at first but I warm up quickly to gentle hands and friendly voices. I have a crush on a visiting pocket pup, and I can't help following her around, she's adorable! I am great with other dogs and very sweet!

Hunter. I am an adorable male beagle about 5 years old and roughly 32 lbs. I am spring loaded! When I get excited I jump straight up in the air. I bet I can be a great Frisbee dog! I am very happy go lucky guy who just loves to run and play and I love other dogs!

Jessie. Hi! I am a very friendly and spunky young female Jack Russell Terrier mix about 2 years old weighing in around 22 lbs. I just can't get enough love from everyone around me. I love to play with other dogs and would make a great companion to someone who is willing to care for me.

Lucy. I am a small female Shepherd mix about 35 lbs. and about 2 years of age. I love to give kisses, go for walks and play with other dogs. I can be a little shy if you come after me, but once I get to know you I'm as friendly as can be!

Holly. I am female smaller Aussie mix about 1 year old with a beautiful brindle coat.  My foster mom tells me I have a beautiful face.  I am quite shy and quiet at first and get a little more outgoing once I get to know you.   I am a super friendly toward people, great with kids and a very lovable dog. I can be a little barky and snarly (I'm all talk) toward other dogs, esp. while being walked, but with a little training we can overcome this together.  I will make a great family member and would love to cuddle with you!

To set up a Meet 'n Greet with any of our dogs in an off-leash environment,
please send us an email at loveyourpet@sbcglobal.net and we will email an
adoption application to you. Meet 'n Greets are by appointment only.

Adoption donations are at least $200.

Our adoption policy requires that you first participate in our Foster-to-Adopt program ($100 money order or cash); in which the dog stays with you for
10-days to ensure we have the right match. We will schedule a home visit during this time. If you decide to adopt your dog after the foster period,
there will be a balance due of $100.

These fees make our rescue program possible. Seem costly? Few, if any, organizations provide their adoptable pets with all of the premium products and services that we provide required to insure a healthy and well-adjusted dog.
These include:

* Spaying & Neutering
* 5-in-1 Vaccine
* Bordetella Vaccine
* Heartworm Test
* Rabies

* Fecal Exam to check for parasites
* Drontal Plus Deworming Medication
* Frontline Plus Flea & Tick Preventative
* Heartgard Plus Heartworm Preventative
* Microchipping
* Premium Dog Food fed to all the dogs. We don't "sell out" to manufacturers that
   want to give us free samples to promote their companies.

In addition, our rescued pets are temperament tested and extremely socialized with other dogs as they attend our exclusive dog playgroup program daily. Our staff spends time on leash training and go over basic commands with the dogs. If you are looking to adopt a pet from another organization and their adoption fee is lower, bring this list with you and ask them if they provide all of this to each animal they take in.

When you adopt a pet from us you will receive:

  • Discounts on Love Your Pet boarding, daycare, pet food & merchandise for the life of the pet adopted from our facility.
  • Membership to Love Your Pet, entitling you to invitations and discounts to special events and pet network (see below), informative newsletters, emails regarding animal behavior, health, and training tips.

Our pet network includes discounts to the following:

  • 15% off first purchase of pet food and merchandise at two local pet stores
  • 20% off initial vet visit
  • Dog walking discounts
  • Dog training discounts

If you decide to adopt your foster dog, the $100 can be applied toward the
adoption fee.

Foster. Many shelters and rescue groups are in need of people who can provide temporary homes for pets because of minor injury, illness, age or lack of space in their facilities. This is a great way to help several pets as they await their new homes. You can contact any agency on our LINKS page to see how you can provide a foster home to animals in need.

Donate. Many animal shelters rely on government tax dollars or private donations to keep their facility operable. Some of the smaller rescue groups have very little resources to work with. Consider donating to a local animal shelter or rescue group. Love Your Pet Rescue uses 100% of its donations to help homeless pets. We do not have top-heavy executive salaries to pay like large shelter organizations, and our pet boarding division funds those “administrative costs,” so you can feel confident that your gift will directly benefit pets in need.

Sponsor a pet. Many people that may not be able to have a pet where they live still want to help. Sponsoring a pet is a great way to provide care for a specific pet until s/he gets adopted. This can be in the form of a one-time or monthly donation. All dogs coming in need to have a physical exam. Many come in undernourished and/or with parasites and need medication. Veterinary expenses and food are very costly and quickly drain a shelter's budget. If you would like to sponsor one of our homeless pets, you can contact us by phone or email, or mail in a donation and include the name of the dog you would like to sponsor. We will send you regular updates and photos of your dog until s/he gets adopted.

Volunteer. Consider enriching a pet’s life by volunteering at a local shelter. Many agencies like ours need volunteers to provide socialization, play time, walks and kennel maintenance. You can also offer your time and help with one of their fund-raising or adoption events, as an extra pair of hands is always appreciated and it’s a good place to meet fellow animal lovers.

Click. This is the easiest way to help animals in need. A simple click of a mouse on the Animal Rescue Site provides food for rescued animals. If you sign up for the Daily Reminder or order pet or people merchandise, several bowls of food are given to homeless pets and you receive a free gift!

Tell Others. If you know of someone thinking about getting a pet, encourage them to adopt from a shelter or rescue group and refer them to our website. The animals rely on us to be their voice. Thank you.
