Pet Overpopulation

Every day in the United States, thousands upon thousands of puppies and kittens are born because of the uncontrolled breeding of pets. Add to that number the offspring of stray and abandoned companion animals, and the total becomes even more staggering. Every year, between six and eight million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters; some three to four million of these animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes for them.

YOU can help save a pet’s life

Spay or Neuter your pet. Educate and encourage others with pets to do the same.

Adopt. Love Your Pet's non-profit division, Love Your Pet Rescue, Inc., works with local animal shelters and other adoption agencies to rescue and adopt out homeless pets. Photos of loving pets now ready for you to take home are posted on this page! Check back often for updates. Please call us at (773) 395-3314 for more information or if you would like to meet any of our adoptable pets. You can also visit our LINKS page for additional resources on pet adoption.

Reeves. I am a very well-behaved 1-year-old male black Lab mix from central Illinois. I was brought into a shelter as a stray. I love affection, playing ball, and lots of praise. I play well with others and walk well on a leash. Won't you give me a chance to be your lovable companion?
Phoenix. I am a good-looking (and modest!) 1-year-old male black Lab mix from central Illinois. I was brought in by my previous owner who wasn't home enough to spend time with me. I know basic commands, I'm good with kids and other dogs, and I LOVE playing Frisbee! Won't you adopt me so we can play Frisbee together?!
Allie. I am a 1 1/2 year-old bundle of energy! I am working on basic commands and know sit very well. I have come a long way from a timid, anti-social dog to a very friendly and playful pup. I'm a happy-go-lucky yellow Lab who loves to play and is full of life. All I need is you!
Indie. Adoption Pending. I am a very loving and affectionate black Lab, 1-2 years of age. I know basic commands, I get along with everyone I meet and would make an awesome family pet. Please come see for yourself!

Ben. Adoption Pending. If you like a big dog, I'm your boy! I'm 100+ lbs of lovable Lab. My nickname is Big Ben, but I can't tell time. I'm 4 1/2 years young and very gentle so I'd be great with kids. I also get along very well with other dogs. My foster mom tells me I'm as sweet as can be! Please meet me and see for yourself!
Lou. I'm an adorable Lab mix who is nothing but pure love! I am 1 year old and I get along with everyone and love to play. I love to play tug, fetch and just love to run around with my new dog friends. I am easy going and would not be any trouble. I just want someone to love me and take care of me.

Adoption fee is $200 & Foster-to-Adopt $100 PLUS a minimum 10-day stay.

These fees make our rescue program possible. Seem costly? Few, if any, organizations provide their adoptable pets with all of the premium products and services that we provide required to insure a healthy and well-adjusted dog.
These include:

* Spaying & Neutering
* 5-in-1 Vaccine
* Bordetella Vaccine
* Heartworm Test
* Rabies

* Fecal Exam to check for parasites
* Drontal Plus Deworming Medication
* Frontline Plus Flea & Tick Preventative
* Heartgard Plus Heartworm Preventative
* Microchipping
* Premium Dog Food fed to all the dogs. We don't "sell out" to manufacturers that
   want to give us free samples to promote their companies.

In addition, our rescued pets are temperament tested and extremely socialized with other dogs as they attend our exclusive dog playgroup program daily. Our staff spends time on leash training and go over basic commands with the dogs. If you are looking to adopt a pet from another organization and their adoption fee is lower, bring this list with you and ask them if they provide all of this to each animal they take in.

Adoption and fostering fees also include:
Membership to Love Your Pet, entitling you to invitations and discounts to special events and pet network (see below), informative newsletters, emails regarding animal behavior, health, and training tips.

Our network includes:
$25 off Love Your Pet services
15% discount off first bag of premium food at two locations
Discount on initial vet visit
Discount off dog training

If you decide to adopt your foster dog, the $100 can be applied toward the
adoption fee.

Foster. Many shelters and rescue groups are in need of people who can provide temporary homes for pets because of minor injury, illness, age or lack of space in their facilities. This is a great way to help several pets as they await their new homes. You can contact any agency on our LINKS page to see how you can provide a foster home to animals in need.

Donate. Many animal shelters rely on government tax dollars or private donations to keep their facility operable. Some of the smaller rescue groups have very little resources to work with. Consider donating to one of these agencies and see how effective your dollars can be.

Volunteer. Consider enriching a pet’s life by volunteering at a local shelter. Many agencies need volunteers to provide socialization, play time, walks and kennel maintenance. You can also offer your time and help with one of their fund-raising or adoption events, as an extra pair of hands is always appreciated and it’s a good place to meet fellow animal lovers.

Click. This is the easiest way to help animals in need. A simple click of a mouse on the Animal Rescue Site provides food for rescued animals. If you sign up for the Daily Reminder or order pet or people merchandise, several bowls of food are given to homeless pets and you receive a free gift!

Tell Others. If you know of someone thinking about getting a pet, encourage them to adopt from a shelter or rescue group and refer them to our website. The animals rely on us to be their voice. Thank you.
